Take Me Home (TTBB)

Take Me Home was written at the request of my oldest sister. As her husband frequently soaked in the hot tub to relieve severe back pain, he began formulating a song. He is neither a poet nor a musician, but it meant something to him. A couple of times my sister suggested that I ought to put his song to music. But, it always seemed too vague to attempt.

Finally, in 2020, I decided to try to compose something, out of what little description I had. She gave me a rough idea of the lyrics, and the only thing she could say about the tune was that it went really low on the final “Home”.

So, I got to work, trying to formulate the lyrics poetically and making sure the ending descended to a really low note.

My sisters sang the SSA arrangement of Take Me Home for my brother-in-law that spring of 2020. He whole-heartedly approved. Ironically, it was my sister who passed away suddenly the following spring, and my brother-in-law requested that his song be sung at her funeral. It was sung by a chorus of sisters, sisters-in-law, cousins and nieces. It truly was beautiful! And, I was so thankful that I had followed the prompting to put his ideas to music when I did.
