If Christ Should Speak to Me
About the Song
If Christ Should Speak to Me
The inspiration for this hymn came from a talk given by Elder Bruce R. McConkie in the April 1985 General Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was his final, extremely powerful address, and it touched me deeply. I felt compelled to set the thoughts he expressed to music, and thus, If Christ Should Speak to Me was composed.
The hymn was awarded first place in the annual Church Music Contest in 1987 and was subsequently published in the July 1995 Friend.
Shortly after writing the hymn I arranged it as an SATB number for our Ward choir to perform, and later incorporated a slightly altered arrangement of it into my Easter cantata, The Good Shepherd.
The song is also available as an SSA arrangement.
